Polyurethane safety

When is a room safe after the flooring is treated with a polyurethane finish?

Asked:

Because VOCs are so dangerous, you will want to check the manufacturer specs for each product. However, because polyurethane hardens so quickly after the initial off gassing, your room should be safe to use.  This off gassing process could take days, weeks  or months depending on different factors. To speed up the process you should do these steps:

  • Increase the room temperature to speed up drying and hardening time.
  • Ventilate room so gasses can escape and do not spread to other surfaces.
  • Use fans and blowers to direct gasses to outside so gas does not spread to other areas
