There are three main reasons you can hear popping noises. You should hear them at all. If you do your installer will check for the following reasons.

Uneven subfloors, both before and after the install due to cracks or shifting of foundation.

Incorrect trowel usage or adhesive application during the install.

Using improper underlayment during installation.
