Hardwood Flooring in a Basement Floor

Can I install hardwood flooring in a basement?

Asked:

A basement environment, because it is below grade, can be subject to moisture. So installing hardwood flooring by directly gluing it down to the concrete surface is not a good idea. Typically if you want real hardwood flooring a substrate should be applied first with a moisture proof layer, however most hardwood installations below surface will use engineered flooring or laminate.
